Lower Saxony has granted an exemption from the Sunday and public holiday driving ban due to the current emergency situation in Syria and Turkey.

Due to the current emergency situation in Syria and Turkey, the Lower Saxony Ministry of Transport has granted an exemption from the Sunday and public holiday driving ban in order to speed up commercial aid transports to the areas affected by the earthquake. According to the Ministry, this is valid up to and including April 30, 2023. A similar regulation for aid shipments to Ukraine was issued last year and extended in early January.

“The terrible earthquake in Syria and Turkey has caused an unimaginable amount of suffering and destruction,” said Minister Olaf Lies. Urgently needed humanitarian aid must therefore reach the affected areas as quickly as possible. “The unrestricted transport of food, warm clothing and medicines must be a matter of course,” Lies said.
